Cosmic Awareness
with Dennis Cole

The Sun and the Moon do a dance with the Earth. In Transpersonal Astrology we recognize a parallel between cycles in Nature and what takes place on Earth. We see the planets, Sun and Moon, as symbolic of psychological driving forces. We also acknowledge that while everything is foreseen, free-will is given, as stated in the Talmud.

Cosmic Awareness focuses on the New and Full Moon cycles. In this column, we will discuss what they might suggest for us. The New Moon occurs every 29- 1/2 days. The Full Moon occurs midway between that cycle. New moons involve unification and new beginnings. Full moons parallel illumination or awareness, usually involving others.

Equinox Trivia
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we observed the Vernal Equinox on March 20, 2006. Heralded as the first day of
Spring, you can recapture the energy of the Equinox and welcome spring by adorning your home with fresh spring flowers or by lighting a white or pale green candle to honor the increased (day) light we will enjoy from now on.

Did You Know...
Translated literally, equinox means “equal night.” Because the sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are of equal length all over the world.

Did You Know...
At the exact time the equinox occurs, the sun passes directly over the earth’s equator. It happens just once again in the span of one year and is known as the Autumnal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere.

Did You Know...
The ancient Egyptians built the Great Sphinx so that it points directly toward the rising sun on the day of the Vernal Equinox.

Did You Know...
That while the Northern Hemisphere welcomes the vernal equinox as it heralds spring and warmer temperatures, our neighbors in the southern hemisphere observe this same equinox as the autumnal equinox, looking forward to the cooler temperatures of autumn.

March 14
Full Moon in Virgo
This Full Moon will also be a penumbral eclipse. Here, the moon is close to the Earths shadow, causing a significant diminution of light. This suggests that the usual Full Moon influence of illumination or awareness could extend beyond the usual 2 weeks influence. What we see seeded in March of 2006 could come to harvest in September. In both the near and 6 month later periods we - individually and collectively - are likely to see some forms of social or public recognition for service well done.

March 29
New Moon in Aries
Since Aries is the first Sign of the Zodiac, this first New Moon of Spring has a bigger boost of energy to it! The powerful new beginnings associated with this cycle of impulse to be, suggests that we may feel a strong desire to take action. Action in areas such as self renewal, new confidence in dealing with others and, for some, to connect with relatives. There is a hint of good fortune coming from others. Many will be looking at new cars!

April 13
Full Moon in Libra
This is one of the stronger annual cycles of relating, connecting or dealing with others. This 2 week window should prove to be quite illuminating! Marital, legal, contractual and social keynotes come into play as many of us find ourselves summoned to rebirth. (A few may be summoned to deal with legal issues!). This can be a wonderful time in which our ideals - rooted in the past - about peace, love and soul mates, can come to center stage.

April 27
New Moon in Taurus
We can all feel a sense of renewal when, once a year, The New Moon takes place in our Sun Sign. So, for those who have a natal Taurus Sun, or Taurus on the Ascendant, these next few weeks can be a natural time for pursuing peace, security, and dreams of social fulfillment and love. The good news is that we all have this influence in some area of our lives at this time. Rewarding opportunities, in response to our future-oriented imagination can definitely center around productive personal growth in work and in service to others.
